Rosemary oil is an oil with anti-inflammatory and antispasmodic properties obtained by infusing sprigs of rosemary in a vegetable oil, for example sunflower oil.
How to make Rosemary oil (with heat)
To make the rosemary oil we will use the heat, that is, we will leave the oil to infuse in a double boiler. In this way the preparation will take less time and the result is also safer. In fact, for the preparation of the rosemary oil we will use the fresh plant and therefore with a high water content. The water could cause the oil to mold and therefore the traditional (cold) method of preparing the infused oil, namely letting it rest for 3 weeks near a heat source, would put the preparation at risk. The cold method for making infused oils is good when dealing with the dry plant while the hot method is better for the fresh plant. But let's go back to the recipe for preparing the rosemary oil. You need:
- 5 sprigs of fresh rosemary
- Sunflower oil
- Glass jar
- Pot for the double boiler
- Gauze
Pour the rosemary needles into the jar, pour the oil until the sprigs are completely covered. Cover the jar with cheesecloth and place it in a pot full of water. Pay attention that the water does not enter the jar. Now heat over very low heat for 2-3 hours. At the end, remove the jar from the double boiler and let it cool. Close with the lid and let it rest overnight. Then filter the rosemary oil using a fine mesh strainer. Here is your rosemary oil ready to be used as a massage oil in case of cramps, muscle pain but also to combat dandruff and oily hair.
