Coriander, Coriandrum sativum, also known as Chinese parsley, is a plant belonging to the Apiaceae family. From the fruits of the plant, through steam distillation, an essential oil with interesting healthy properties is obtained, however, this essential oil is contraindicated during pregnancy and breastfeeding, in small children. Useful to bring relief in case of problems of stomach and intestine, it is antibacterial according to scientific studies (Silva et al, Journal of Medical Microbiology, 2011) and can be used against rheumatism, pain and swelling of the limbs and after long illnesses. From the point of view of mind and emotions this essential oil is useful in case of stress and to improve memory. Let’s see the main uses.

Bellyache, colitis, abdominal cramps, poor digestion

Coriander essential oil is a powerful aid in case of problems of stomach, wind and abdominal cramps, it promotes the production of gastric juices and improves in this way digestion. Massage belly and stomach with 4-5 drops of coriander essential oil diluted in a tablespoon of sweet almond oil, apply with slow circular movements until it is completely absorbed. Against fermentations, you can take 2 drops of essential oil in a teaspoon of honey after the main meals.

Flu

Coriander essential oil can be used to prepare steam inhalation against flu, cold and sinusitis. Heat a pot full of water, as soon as it reaches the boiling remove from the heat, wait a minute then add 5 drops of coriander essential oil, cover the head with a towel and breathe the aroma.

Rheumatism, muscle and joint pain

Coriander essential oil has an anti-inflammatory, anti-rheumatic and painkilling action. You can apply 20 drops of essential oil mixed with 100 ml of a plant based oil, such as, for example, sweet almond oil or wheat germ oil, and massage until it is completely absorbed.

Stress, illnesses, blood circulation

Coriander essential oil has a heating and tonic action, it is able to strengthen memory and body, reactivates blood circulation. You can mix a couple of drops of essential oil in a tablespoon of sweet almond oil and do regenerating massages on the body, but you can also add 12 drops to the water for a stimulating bath. In case of swollen and sore feet you can benefit from the properties of coriander essential oil by adding ten drops to the water for a foot bath.
