Melalueca viridiflora, commonly known as broad-leaved paper bark, is an evergreen tree belonging to the Mirtaceae family and native to Australia. The niaouli essential oil is obtained by stem distillation from its leaves and has antiseptic, balsamic, expectorant, antibacterial, antiviral properties. In addition to this niaouli essential oil has also a protective and boosting action on the immune system. From the emotional point of view, it is balancing and promotes the openness to other people, situations and changes. Let’s see the main applications, but remember that it is better to avoid breathing niaouli in the form of steam inhalation because it may have a too strong action.

Diseases of the respiratory tract

Niaouli essential oil is well known and appreciated to treat diseases of the respiratory tract such as cough, cold, asthma, bronchitis, catarrh, sinusitis but also tonsillitis, in fact it is possible to find it in a lot of preparations dedicated to diseases of ear, nose and throat. You can diffuse the essential oil in the room in order to benefit from its properties, 5 drops, but you can also mix 10-15 drops of essential oil in 100 ml of a plant-based oil, such as jojoba o sweet almond oil, and massage the chest and the throat.

Skin problems– Niaouli essential oil can be used in case of acne, oily skin, wounds, ulcers, burns, insect bites but also fungus, psoriasis and itching. In these cases, bring to boil 200 ml of water, then remove it from heat and let it cool down. Once cold add 5-6 drops of essential oil, soak a gauze and apply on the part. For a quick action in case of insect bites you can pour just a few drops of essential oil on a clean gauze or cloth and apply on the part of skin in order to obtain relieve.

Muscle pain, arthritis, rheumatism, problems related to blood circulation

Mix 10 drops of niaouli essential oil and two tablespoons of a plant-based oil, such as the sweet almond oil, and massage the part.

Difficulty in opening to the changes, addictions

This essential oil promotes the openness to the others, it results suitable for those people who cannot accept changes but it can be helpful also in case of addictions. You can diffuse in the room by using an oil burner.
