Matcha green tea is an amazing drink, it is a light green powder that should be melt in water. And it is precisely this characteristic that differentiates matcha from common green tea. These researches were published by a German team in Oncology reports (Schroeder et al, Jan 2019) and by Nederland scientists in the journal Current pharmaceutical design (Dietz et al, 2017).
Matcha green tea contains important antioxidants such as quercetin and epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG). According to scientific studies (Weiss et al, J Chromatogr A, Sep 2003) the quantity of EGCG in a cup of matcha tea is about 130 times greater than the quantity of this substance in Chinese green tea and at least three times higher than the best Japanese green tea. The researchers have observed that EGCG and quercetin make the matcha an anticancer drink and that these substances, both in pure form and as a tea, and this is the most important aspect, are able to counteract the growth of breast cancer cells. In addition to this, matcha tea is also an amazing drink for students thanks to two substances that are L-theanine and caffeine, that improve memory, attention, concentration but also mood. And if you think that caffeine may induce an excessive excitement, don’t worry! The scientists indeed have observed that the effect of caffeine is reduced thanks to the calming action of L-theanine.
