Healthy eating helps the body work properly, counteracts illnesses, improves mood and helps also … fight wrinkles, at least for women. This is the result of the study performed by the researchers of the Erasmus MC University Medical Center in Rotterdam, The Netherlands. The work was published a few months ago in the Journal of The American Academy of Dermatology (Mekic et al, J Am Acad Dermatol, Mar 2018).
The scientists studied the dietary habits of a sample composed by 2753 persons, 59% women and the rest men, with median age of 67,3 years. In particular, the scientists analyzed the adherence of the participants to the guide lines that involve a daily intake of at least 200 grams of vegetables and 200 grams of fruit, a daily intake of fibers preferably from a plant based origin and from whole grain cereals, two portions of fish per week, better if oily fish, and finally a limited intake of salt and trans and saturated fats. The guide lines propose also a 30-minute physical activity every day, for example a brisk walk. At the end of the study, the women who adhered the most to the guide lines showed also less facial wrinkles than those women who ate more red meats and snacks. This protective action of diet on skin and against wrinkles wasn’t observed in men. Instead, an increase in physical activity compared to the recommendations was associated with more wrinkling in both men and women.
A healthy diet and a healthy and natural lifestyle are strong medicines for the body and also powerful cosmetics, even better then a regenerating face cream!
