Castagnaccio is a traditional Italian chestnut flour cake. The final result is a tasty and healthy cake that uses chestnut flour, very important for the balance of the nervous system and with an energizing action.
Ingredients
2 cups of chestnut flour
4 cups of water
1 tablespoon of whole cane sugar
1 tablespoon of pine nuts
2 tablespoons of raisins
olive oil
If you want to make this cake more tasty you can soak raisins in a bowl with Marsala or Rum and water. Then, mix the flour with water and sugar. Drain raisins and add them to the compound of water, flour and sugar, pour also a little oil and add the tablespoon of pine nuts. Pour the cake on a baking pan covered with baking paper and cook it in a preheated oven at 200° for 30 minutes and then at 180° for 10 minutes. If you want to follow the true traditional recipe you should not use sugar and you can add to the surface of the cake some rosemary leaves.
