Basil is an aromatic plant that is very easy to grow. The leaves, taken from adult plants taller than 10 cm because if smaller contain toxic substances, should be added to dishes just at the end in order to preserve their properties. Basil can be eaten fresh, you can add it to tomato sauce or salads, as herbal tea or essential oil.

In addition to this, fresh basil contains carotenoid, like lutein and beta-carotene, that have an antioxidant and skin-protective action. To treat anxiety, headache and cough infuse for 5 minutes one handful of fresh basil leaves, or two tablespoons of dry leaves, in one liter of water, strain and drink.
In case of cold, stuffy nose, bronchitis or sinusitis try to inhale some drops of essential oil added on a handkerchief.
