Blackthorn, Prunus spinosa, is a plant characterized by white flowers and blue, berry-shaped fruits. The plant has purifying, diuretic and laxative properties while the fruits are astringent.

Brew of leaves with purifying properties

On order to benefit from the purifying properties of blackthorn leaves you can prepare a brew in this way: bring to boil a liter of water, remove from heat and put to infuse a handful of fresh or dried leaves for about ten minutes. Filter and drink up to two cups a day.
Brew of flowers with diuretic and laxative properties, against stomach and intestinal cramps - Brings to boil a cup of water, remove from heat and put to brew a tablespoon of dried flowers for ten minutes, filter and drink 2 cups a day. Useful in case of constipation, water retention and irritable bowel.

Decoction of fruits, astringent and anti-inflammatory properties

Bring to boil a liter of water with a tablespoon of ripe fruits, simmer for a few minutes, then filter. The decoction is suitable both for external use, you can indeed gargle in case of sore throat or inflammations of the mouth or apply compresses in order to stop bleeding, for example in case of nosebleeds, and for internal use, 2 cups a day for diarrhea.
