The Bryonia, scientific name Bryonia alba, is a perennial herbaceous plant belonging to the Cucurbitaceae family. The berries of the plant are toxic with effects such as vomiting or diarrhea. However, the mother tincture obtained from its roots results a helpful homeopathic remedy that can be used to treat painful conditions such as headache, especially if caused by physical efforts or anger and that gets worse in closed and hot environments but finds relief from a pressure on the painful area, neuralgia, including trigeminal, sciatica, joint pain and arthritis, but also dizziness caused by movements of the head and neck and continuous urge to cough. The dosage is 5 CH, to treat a persistent cough, or 9 CH for painful states, 5 granules from two to 4 times a day, depending on the intensity of the symptoms. Side effects are not reported, however the remedy is not recommended during pregnancy.
