Rosa canina, also known as dog rose, is a spontaneous plant belonging to the Rosaceae family. The glycerine macerate is obtained from its buds while the mother tincture is obtained from the berries of this wonderful plant. Let’s see better in detail properties and uses of these two amazing remedies!

Glycerine macerate of dog rose, properties and uses

Glycerin macerate of rosa canina is characterized by a high content of antioxidants such as quercetin, ellagitannins and kempferol (Jimenez et al, PLoS One, 2016). Thanks to these substances, the dog rose glycerine macerate shows anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, antiviral and anti-allergic properties (Roman et al, Chem Cent, 2018). Therefore, given these characteristics, the glycerine macerate of dog rose is able to increase the immune defenses and to fight inflammations, thus resulting a help in case of recurrent airway infections such as rhinitis, sinusitis and bronchitis. In addition to this, the dog rose combined with ribes nigrum is also useful against allergies and bronchial asthma. Finally, thanks to its antiviral and stimulating action on the immune system, the glycerine macerate of dog rose can be helpful in case of warts and cold sores. The glycerine macerate of dog rose is taken in the dose of 30 drops twice a day in a little water. The treatment should be followed for three weeks, then, after a break of 10 days you can go on with the cure for a maximum of 3 months. Do not exceed the dose to avoid headaches and gastrointestinal symptoms.

Mother tincture of dog rose, properties and uses

From the fruits, or berries, of the dog rose, the mother tincture is obtained, a rich source of vitamin C, flavonoids and phenols. The dog rose mother tincture is antioxidant and, based on scientific studies, also anticancer (Roman et al, Chem Cent, 2013). Given these characteristics, this remedy is a tonic and strengthens the body, helps it in times of stress and tiredness, supports the immune system and supplements vitamin C in case of deficiency. Not only that, it seems that the action against oxidative stress also has another effect and that is to support memory and counteract sadness and depression that can result as a consequence of diabetes (Farajpour et al, Med Princ Pract, 2017). You can take 30 drops of rosehip tincture diluted in water twice a day.
