Hemp oil, or hempseed oil, is extracted through cold pressing from the seeds of Cannabis sativa, can be easily found in supermarkets or specialized shops in every Country and is well appreciated for its healthy properties. This plant based oil, indeed, is rich in essential fatty acids and characterized by antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. Hemp oil contains fatty acids omega 3 and omega 6 in the right proportion 3-1 and, for this reason, it can be inserted in the diet of those people that suffer from high levels of cholesterol and triglycerides. A review of 2010 published on the scientific journal Nutrition&Metabolism by a team lead by dr. Grant Pierce of the St. Boniface Hospital in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, has highlighted that the obtained results about hempseeds, used to produce hemp oil, confirm that this product has beneficial effects on the cardiovascular health. While a more recent study of 2014 and published on the Journal of agricultural and food chemistry by a team of Spanish scientists has analyzed in detail the composition of hemp oil in which, according to the study, the essential fatty acids, that are the 75% of the oil, are represented for the most part by alpha-linolenic acid, linoleic acid and oleic acid with a demonstrated protective action against coronary illnesses. In addition to this, hemp seed oil is also able to fortify the immune system, moreover, the anti-inflammatory action is useful to bring relief in case of arthritis, muscle and menstrual pain and to regulate the intestine. This plant based oil contains also vitamins, such as A, B1, B2, C and E, and mineral salts such as iron, calcium, magnesium, phosphorus, zinc and potassium. Finally, the THC, tetrahydrocannabinol, that is the psychoactive constituent of cannabis, is produced just from the flowers and leaves, not from the seeds that, on the contrary, don’t contain this substance, this is confirmed by the Italian National Institute of Health. The advised dosage is a teaspoon of oil per day, but you can take until a tablespoon in order to treat problems such as high cholesterol, the usage of hemp oil indeed is able to reduce very fast both cholesterol and triglycerides. You can use hemp oil raw to season salads and vegetables. But hemp oil is also helpful in cosmetic. You can apply it on the part in case of acne, psoriasis, dry skin and dehydrated skin, eczema and skin irritations but also to revitalize and nourish dry hair. You can massage some drops of oil on the face, in the evening, until it is completely absorbed or, for the health and beauty of the hair, you can add a few drops to the conditioner or the mask you use.
