In the previous post we have seen the properties of Macadamia nuts, a type of oily fruit with a taste that reminds that of coconut, an anti-inflammatory action and a protective role on the cardiovascular system. From Macadamia nuts an oil is extracted, this oil may be used both for cooking, thanks to the high content in monounsaturated fats, the good fats for the heart, and the high smoke point, around 210 °C, but also, and especially, in cosmetics. In the article of today we will speak about the use of this plant based oil as an ingredient for the beauty of skin and hair. Macadamia oil is indeed an amazing product for your beauty and therefore it may appear in several cosmetic products, DIY or purchased, in this last case its name in INCI is Macadamia Integrifolia Seed oil or Macadamia Ternifolia Seed oil. Macadamia nut oil is rich in unsaturated fatty acids, and in particular it is rich in palmitoleic acid (Lima et al, Mediators Inflamm, 2014). Palmitoleic acid is one of the natural constituent of human epidermis (Kim et al, J Korean Med Sci, 2010) and, for this affinity, macadamia oil is easily absorbed and plays a role in balancing the sebum production. Moreover, the quantity of palmitoleic acid is higher in young skin and tends to decrease with aging (Akhtar et al, Pak J Pharm Sci, 2008 and Hayashi et al, Exp Dermatol, 2003), for this reason macadamia nut oil, by integrating this important substance, may be really helpful to counteract skin aging. Thanks to these characteristics, macadamia nut oil makes the skin velvety, it is soothing and nourishing and it isn’t comedogenic, it may be used on skin with wrinkles but also on acne prone skin, on sensitive and irritated skin. You can add a couple of drops of oil to your usual face cream and apply on face with slow movements. In addition to this, macadamia nut oil helps also tone the skin, it counteracts and prevents stretch marks and is an optimal product for the skin of breast, you can apply the product directly on the part and massage until it is completely absorbed. Finally, macadamia nut oil is also useful to make dull hair glossy and full of life, in this case you can apply a little macadamia nut oil on the roots of damp hair. Massage and let it rest for 15 minutes, then wash with your shampoo. Macadamia oil is really a beauty plant based oil!
