There are products that, alone, can help in case of various conditions affecting the skin. One of these products is argan oil, a very versatile and so powerful oil that there are countless scientific studies dedicated to its properties. Argan is obtained from the fruits of the Argania spinosa plant, originally from Morocco, and is presented as a golden yellow oil, with a silky consistency and which is quickly absorbed. Now let's see what argan oil can do for our beauty.
Argan oil, properties for all skin types
Argan oil is rich in unsaturated fatty acids, but also polyphenols, carotenoids and tocopherol, which are powerful antioxidants (Gharby et al, Front Nutr, 2021). Thanks to these characteristics, argan oil, if applied on skin regularly, is able, in about two months, to improve the elasticity of the skin. This effect has also been observed in women in menopause, a period characterized by the decline in estrogen that affects the degree of elasticity of the skin, which can lose up to 30% of its collagen in the first 5 years after entering menopause (Boucetta et al. al, Clin Interv Aging, 2015). Argan oil is then a true elixir for dull skin, saggy skin and with wrinkles, which are reduced thanks to this product (Gharby et al, Front Nutr, 2021). But argan oil is also beneficial for skin with irritations and eczema and for young and acne-prone skin, since it helps rebalance sebum production, is anti-inflammatory and stimulates healing processes (Villareal et al, Evid Based Complement Alternat Med, 2013). Not only that, argan oil is useful for reducing scars and also the marks left by chicken pox (Villareal et al, Evid Based Complement Alternat Med, 2013).
Argan oil also for dark spots
Argan oil, thanks to its tocopherol content, inhibits the formation of melanin and thus counteracts hyperpigmentation. Dark spots on the skin can form as a result of excessive exposure to the sun but also as a post-inflammatory phenomenon, for example as a result of acne. Therefore, argan oil is also useful for treating these conditions, giving a more homogeneous complexion (Villareal et al, Evid Based Complement Alternat Med, 2013).
Argan oil, applications and ideas
As we have seen, all skin types can benefit significantly from the use of argan oil. Before applying the oil, spray a floral water, perform a quick massage and, when the face is still damp, apply a few drops of argan oil, massage gently until absorbed. You can also use argan oil in the eye contour area and around the mouth, to counteract wrinkles, expression lines and sagging skin. You can also add a few drops of an essential oil to argan oil. For example, studies have observed that the combination given by argan oil and clove essential oil creates a unique and powerful synergy with a high anti-aging power, capable of counteracting the action of free radicals and aging processes more than two products taken individually (Bakour et al, Int J Mol Sci, 2018). You can do like this, in 30 ml of argan oil you can add 2-3 drops of clove essential oil, shake well to mix the ingredients. Then you can apply a couple of drops of product on the moistened face, avoiding however, in this case, the eye area.
