Natural beauty, the oatmeal for the beauty of the hair

Oatmeal gently cleanses, soothes scalp irritations and dermatitis, protects hair follicles from free radical damage, stimulates hair growth, and maintains elasticity and hydration. So let's see how to use this product for scalp and hair care

In summer, hair gets stressed easily, due to high exposure to sun, sea and wind. Subjected to atmospheric agents, the hair can become drier, frizzy and dull, it can weaken and itching and dermatitis can appear. Today we will see a hair treatment that is a real pamper, based on oatmeal! Oatmeal, as we will see, has a gentle and emollient action, preserves hydration and protects against damage from pollution and UV rays. But let's try to understand better on the basis of the most interesting scientific research.

Oats for hair, what science says

Oats are a source of avenanthramides, which are substances with a powerful antioxidant and anti-inflammatory action. In particular, these substances have proven to be useful in protecting hair follicles from free radical damage, which stimulates hair growth and reduces hair loss (Trueb et al, Int J Trichology, 2018). In addition, avenanthramides are suitable for scalp care since they are soothing, reduce itching and contrast dermatitis and dandruff (Perrelli et al, Oxid Med Cell Longev, 2018). Oats are also cleansing, gently removing dead cells and excess sebum and helping to keep skin and hair hydrated (Pazyar et al, IJDVL, 2012).

Oats for hair, DIY cosmetics

You can find various oat-based products on the market.

Alternatively, here are some ideas for making in just a few steps powerful cosmetics at home that take care of the beauty and health of the hair and scalp. For example, on wet hair and after shampooing, you can use this conditioner, which is useful for soothing, removing dead cells and hydrating. In a small bowl, combine two tablespoons of your favorite conditioner, 2 tablespoons of oatmeal, or finely ground rolled oats, and two tablespoons of brown sugar. Apply to hair and scalp, perform a gentle massage, then rinse thoroughly. Here is the pre-shampoo mask instead. In a bowl mix 3 tablespoons of oatmeal and as much oat milk as needed to get a creamy texture. Add a teaspoon of a vegetable oil, such as jojoba oil, to balance sebum production, or coconut oil for damaged hair, mix. Apply to hair and scalp, leave on for 30 minutes, then rinse and shampoo.
