Science is constantly looking for new, safe and effective cosmetic treatments. Here comes ferulic acid, a substance with a powerful anti-aging action that has attracted the attention of industry experts. In reality, ferulic acid has always existed, being an antioxidant contained in parsley, kiwis, apples and grapes, but it is only in the last 10 years that its effectiveness in the cosmetic field has been evaluated. Today we will see the beauty properties of ferulic acid and how we can benefit from it thanks to a DIY beauty recipe that is simple to prepare but very special. In fact, we will understand how to make a skin tonic in the form of ice cubes, to obtain a cosmetic against eye bags, dark circles, wrinkles, dark spots, acne and sunburns in a single product, really not bad!

Ferulic acid for your beauty, what science says

Ferulic acid is an antioxidant substance of the phenol family which is found naturally in various species of plants, fruits and vegetables, such as spinach, grapes, rhubarb, apples, parsley, oats, but also coffee and beer (Liu et al, Nat Prod Bioprospect, 2022). Precisely because of its powerful anti-aging action, ferulic acid counteracts photoaging, caused by damage from UV rays, improves skin elasticity and hydration and reduces the formation of wrinkles (Huma et al, Biomed Res Int, 2022). Not only that, since ferulic acid inhibits the proliferation of melanocytes, which are the cells responsible for the production of melanin, it counteracts the formation of dark spots, helping to have a more homogeneous complexion. Ferulic acid also reduces redness, oily skin, blackheads and acne and contributes to smoother skin (Costa et al, Molecules, 2022).

The anti-aging and anti-acne tonic, very easy recipe

Today we will see how to exploit the properties of ferulic acid in a very special cosmetic preparation, perfect for late spring days and throughout the summer. It is a face tonic in the form of … flavored ice cubes, a precious source of ferulic acid, vitamins and antioxidants. The ice cube prepared with the chosen ingredients will help reduce swelling and inflammation, soothe sunburnt skin but also fight wrinkles, not only thanks to the action of the substances contained but also due to the effect of the cold. In fact, cold treatment has been shown to safely reduce wrinkles and inflammation (Palmer et al, Dermatol Surg, 2015 - Piao et al, Mediators Inflamm, 2019). And then the process is very simple. Blend in the mixer a handful of fresh parsley, a source of ferulic acid, together with a kiwi, which contains vitamins C, E and beta-carotene. The association of ferulic acid and other antioxidants, such as vitamins C, E and beta carotene, has been shown to create a powerful synergy, increasing the anti-aging action and delaying the aging processes (Huma et al, Biomed Res Int, 2022 ). Pour the mixture into popsicle molds and place in the freezer to solidify. Get a small cotton bag or a soft cotton cloth, wrap a couple of cubes and gently pass over the clean face, with circular movements, you can also place this compress on the eye contour, morning and evening. Then you can continue the treatment with an anti-aging serum oil, such as argan oil, a very versatile product, or, if in the presence of spots and photoaging, oil with bakuchiol is excellent.
