Natural beauty, beautiful with thyme

It is necessary to give again importance to the skin and its needs, by preferring natural cosmetics prepared with just a few ingredients that are really beneficial to the skin. For example, did you ever think that thyme, an aromatic plant of the Lamiaceae family often used to flavor fish, meat, vegetable and omelette dishes, is also an important ally for your beauty? In fact, the thyme is characterized by antimicrobial properties against a wide range of microbes and fungi (Nzeako et al, SQUMJ, 2006). In particular, based on research, the thyme has proved to be particularly effective against two bacteria considered among the main causes of acne, such as Propionibacterium acnes and Staphylococcus epidermidis (Taleb et al, Molecules, Sep 2018). Moreover, the thyme is also a powerful anti age able to fight the action of free radicals and aging processes (Binic et al, Evid Based Complement Alternat Med., 2013). For this reason, thyme can be a really useful remedy for acne-prone skin by helping to counteract inflammation, lesions but also dark spots that can affect the skin. Now let's see all the forms in which you can find thyme to benefit from its properties!

Infused oil and essential oil of thyme

The essential oil of thyme is purchased in all herbalists and specialized shops. You can add a drop of this essential oil to a teaspoon of a carrier oil, such as jojoba, and apply in the evening as an anti-inflammatory and anti-dark spot serum. Alternatively, you can mix a drop of essence with a little face cream and apply. Instead, you can prepare thyme infused oil by yourself, the process is simple. Place 4-5 sprigs of thyme with leaves and flowers in a glass jar, then pour sunflower oil to cover the plant. Heat the jar in a double boiler for 3-4 hours, then remove from heat and filter. You can apply a few drops of this oil directly on pimples, fungal infections, sores, wounds and insect bites.

Thyme hydrolat

Thyme water is bought in specialized shops and online and should be sprayed onto the skin of the face. This hydrolat acts as a tonic and disinfectant, it is really useful in case of acne thanks to its antibacterial, soothing, sebum-balancing and healing properties. Thanks to this action, thyme hydrolat is also a perfect lotion after shaving. But that's not all, having thyme hydrolat at your fingertips also means always to be able to rely on a useful remedy for the health of your mouth. In fact, this hydrolat can be used for gargling to fight infections that affect the mouth such as stomatitis, canker sores, but also gingivitis.
