The capillary bath is a treatment for the scalp that results beneficial in case of dandruff, itching, psoriasis, dermatitis but also brittle and dry hair. The treatment consists in an application of a plant based oil, that may be mixed with essential oils, on the scalp. This lotion is massaged and then left on for a while, finally it is washed away with the shampoo. Let’s see how to take care of our hair in a natural way and with just a few ingredients, without clogging and stressing our skin with products, creams and lotions full of silicones and irritating or even carcinogenic substances. As usual, we will refer to scientific results in order to show the validity of the proposed remedies. But let’s see better in detail.
Capillary bath in case of dandruff and psoriasis
What to do in case of dandruff, psoriasis, itching of the scalp and oily hair? The best plant based oils, in this case, are jojoba oil, with a soothing and anti inflammatory action, able to balance the production of sebum and to nourish the skin, borage oil, beneficial in case of dermatitis, and nigella sativa or black cumin oil with antibacterial, antifungal and anti-inflammatory properties, useful to bring relief in case of psoriasis (Tzu-kai Lin et al, Int J Mol Sci, Jan 2018 - Aljabre et al, JODS, Jul 2015). You can mix the oils in equal parts or you can alternate them. Take about two tablespoons of product and massage it on damp scalp, for example you can spray a floral water or you can apply some aloe vera gel. Leave on this capillary bath for a long time, from 30 minutes to 1 hour, according to your possibilities, then rinse with your shampoo.
Capillary bath for brittle hair
In case of brittle, dry and dull hair and split ends it is possible to act by nourishing and strengthening the hair and by stimulating the microcirculation. In this case the oils and the butters that suit the best are shea butter and, above all, coconut oil that, according to scientific research, has proved to be able to protect the hair and to prevent protein lost (Rele et al, J Cosmet Sci, Mar 2003), avocado oil, rich in vitamins A, C, D and E and antioxidants (Tzu-kai Lin et al, Int J Mol Sci, Jan 2018) and argan oil, that nourishes the scalp by preventing hair loss and dry hair (Villareal et al, Evid Based Complement Alternat Med, Jul 2013). For example, you can prepare a lotion by mixing 1 tablespoon of shea butter, one tablespoon of jojoba oil and a teaspoon of coconut oil, or, as an alternative to coconut oil, you can use avocado or argan oil, according to the oils you have at home. You can also add 2-3 drops of peppermint essential oil that, on the basis of scientific studies, is able to strengthen the hair and the hair follicles by promoting blood flow (Ji Young Oh et al, Toxicol Res, Dec 2014). Apply this lotion on the damp scalp and then massage it from the roots until the ends, wrap the head with a plastic wrap and leave on for 15-20 minutes. Then rinse with the shampoo, you may need two washes.
