Not a real precious metal but certainly gold for the skin, we talk about the Mimosa tenuiflora, or skin tree or Tepezcohuite, an evergreen plant belonging to the Fabaceae family, native to Central and South America and known as a source of beauty since the times of the ancient Maya.

Mimosa tenuiflora, properties for health and beauty, what science says

In fact, in the bark of this tree there are active ingredients useful to treat skin lesions and with a high healing power. But it is not just tradition, even science has become interested in this plant, by demonstrating its anti-inflammatory, skin-regenerating and soothing properties and its ability to speed up the healing of wounds and ulcers (Cruz et al, PLoS One, Mar 2016 - Valencia- Gómez et al, Int J Biol Macromol., Dec 2016). In fact, 8 weeks of treatment with a gel containing 5% of mimosa tenuiflora bark extract were able to reduce venous leg ulcers by up to 92% while no improvement was observed in patients who had applied the same gel but without plant extract (Rivera-Arce et al, J Ethnopharmacol., Feb 2007).

Mimosa tenuiflora, applications

This is why this wonderful plant is useful in case of skin irritations, psoriasis, wounds, burns, ulcers, sores but also acne. Finally, since the mimosa tenuiflora works by regenerating the skin, it can also be used in case of mature skin and with wrinkles and to prevent and counteract skin aging processes. You can find ready-to-buy mimosa tenuiflora creams and ointments, alternatively, if you like DIY or still want to have full control of the ingredients of the cosmetics you apply on your skin, you can prepare a serum for the night or a natural remedy very effective for a fast healing of sores and ulcers. Get mimosa tenuiflora powder, you can find it in herbalist's shop or online. You can directly apply this powder to the previously moistened wound or you can dissolve it in a plant based oil. In 100 ml of oil, jojoba if it is to counteract acne or psoriasis, argan for wrinkles, dissolve two tablespoons of mimosa powder. Use as a serum in the evening on slightly damp skin.
