Periwinkle is a plant with blue flowers, but the natural remedy are the leaves where all the curative properties of the plant are concentrated. The leaves of the periwinkle are in fact helpful in case of anemia, tiredness or convalescence because they are tonic and able to regenerate the blood. The leaves of periwinkle have also significant anti-inflammatory properties, useful in case of sore throat or tonsillitis, they have antidiarrheal and cicatrizing effects and for this reason they are used in case of wounds and bleeding, also nosebleeds. This remedy can be applied also in case of high blood pressure thanks to its hypotensive effect. It’s better to avoid periwinkle if you suffer from low blood pressure or if you are taking antihypertensive medications.
A handful of fresh leaves, or a half handful of dry leaves, in one liter of boiling water removed from heat. Leave to brew for 10 minutes, filter and drink up to two cups a day.
Decoction for external use or gargling
Boil for a few minutes a handful of fresh leaves in a liter of water. Filter and leave to cool. In this way you’ll obtain a lotion used to make compress in case of wounds or bleeding or a decoction for gargling in case of tonsillitis or sore throat.
