Red chicory, or radicchio, belongs to the Composite family, chicory group, and is a bitter vegetable rich in anthocyanins, a type of antioxidants that give the red color to the leaves and have beneficial effects on the heart, blood vessels and against the processes of aging. The red chicory is composed for the most part by water, about 94%, it provides very few calories, therefore is well suited to be inserted in the diets in case of overweight or simply in order to maintain the body weight, it is also a source of fiber for a good bowel function and to control the sense of hunger.
