Rose water, or rose floral water, is a product for the beauty of face, eyes and hair that is obtained during the process of distillation of rose petals to produce the essential oil. At the end of this process, in addition to the essential oil of rose, rose water is also obtained that preserves the incredible properties of this fragrant and velvety flower. For the homemade preparation instead, the infusion of the petals is used. The petals are added to the boiling water and left to rest for about 2 hours, then the lotion is filtered and poured into a small bottle. Rose water can be obtained using different rose petals, such as rosa centifolia, or Provence rose, rosa gallica, or Gallic rose, and rosa damascena, or Damask rose. In general, the product is an excellent tonic for the face, it is antibacterial, antioxidant, anti-aging, antiseptic and anti-inflammatory (Mahboubi, J Tradit Complement Med, Jan 2016), ideal in case of wrinkles, skin redness, acne, skin that appears dry, irritated, sensitive or tight, especially after normal cleaning. Regarding the application of rose water, after cleaning the skin of the face you can tap a little product, also in the area around the eyes, then you can proceed with your usual face cream. Rose water helps illuminate and soften the skin and adds freshness by soothing irritations, balancing the production of sebum and regenerating the tissues. And if you have a problem with red eyes or bags under the eyes pour a little rose water on two cotton disks and apply them on closed eyelids for about ten minutes. This remedy may also be useful in case of conjunctivitis, since rose water has shown a specific analgesic and anti-inflammatory action in case of ocular problems (Abdul et al, Ophthalmol Eye Dis, Mar 2010). But rose water is also a valid ally also to counteract dandruff and to soothe itches and seborrheic dermatitis of the scalp. In this case you can do a massage by gently rubbing the skin and hair roots with rose water. Leave on for 15-20 minutes then continue with the normal shampoo. Finally, rose water is a truly complete beauty cosmetic that also acts on the psyche because, thanks to its fragrance, it calms, relaxes, brings good humor and sense of safety, it is able to bring relief in case of headache caused by contractions and tensions and results useful in case of anxiety or insomnia (Barati et al, Nephrourol Mon, Jul 2016).
