The Scutellaria baicalensis, also known as Baical skullcap, comes from Russia and China and is widely used in traditional Chinese medicine to treat allergies, inflammation, flu, liver and lung diseases and headaches. The herbaceous plant has in fact anti-inflammatory, analgesic, anti-allergic, antispasmodic and sedative properties, it can be used in case of back pain, because it is able to relax the muscles, headaches, but also insomnia and anxiety states, panic attacks, but especially in case of food allergies, asthma, hives, hay fever, eczema, and generally all inflammatory disorders originated from allergy. The plant also seems to have anti-cancer properties, according to a British study carried out by the John Innes Centre and published in April 2016 on the journal Science Advances, but this research is still at an early stage and other studies should be performed in order to understand better the mechanisms and how it is possible to use the observed effects. Do not use during pregnancy and breastfeeding, in children or if you are taking medications to control the blood sugar, since Scutellaria can lower the level of blood sugar. You can take the Scutellaria in the form of dry extract or herbal tea.

Bring to boil a cup of water, remove from heat and leave to infuse a teaspoon of dried scutellaria for 10 minutes, filter and drink up to two cups a day.
