Natural beauty, the best plant based oils against dark skin spots

Let's see how to counteract dark skin spots thanks to rosehip and castor oils, characterized by antioxidant and healing properties
Aging processes, excessive sun exposure without the necessary precautions but also scars and pimples can cause the appearance of dark spots on the skin. But nature may be really helpful thanks to two special plant based oils, rosehip and castor oil, which, thanks to their antioxidant, firming and healing properties, are able to prevent or attenuate these spots.

Rosehip oil

Rosa canina, or dog rose, is a spontaneous rose. After its flowering, on the bush grow berries, the rose hips, of a beautiful deep red color and with a fleshy consistency. From the cold pressing of these fruits an oil with antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and healing properties is obtained. Scientific studies have observed that rosehip oil speeds up the healing of wounds and acts by reducing scars, thus being useful in the case of acne (Let et al, Plant Med, 2019). Moreover, in rosehip oil there are also antioxidants such as vitamin C, tocopherol and carotenoids and this makes the oil a highly protective cosmetic against oxidative stress and skin aging processes, therefore resulting a powerful remedy to counteract dark skin spots (Tzu-Kai Lin et al, Int J Mol Sci, 2018). However, a clarification must be made. Most of the rosehip oil on the market is obtained by the method of cold pressing, in particular the berries are passed through rollers, sometimes using a solvent. With this method you always get a precious and beneficial oil but you can lose a part of the antioxidant substances, especially with regard to vitamin C. Alternative extraction methods have been tested and, among these, extraction with supercritical carbon dioxide, namely at temperatures and pressures higher than the critical point, therefore above 31° C and 73 bar, have given the best results preserving at most the oil properties (Szentmihályi et al, Bioresour Technol., 2002). Generally, the extraction method is always indicated. You can apply a couple of drops of this oil on damp face, neck and hands in the evening.

Castor oil

From the seeds of the castor plant, scientific name Ricinus communis, the famous castor oil is extracted, which, thanks to scientific studies that have demonstrated the antibacterial, anti-inflammatory and antioxidant action, finds application in the cosmetic field for the preparation of various products of beauty (Iqbal et al, ISRN Pharmacol, 2012 - Al Mamun et al, BMC Complement Altern Med, 2016). In fact, thanks to these characteristics, castor oil helps fight acne, blackheads and spots but also aging processes and skin blemishes. The only problem related to the use of castor oil is its consistency. In fact, it is a very viscous and dense oil. So, to spread it, it is good to mix it with a more liquid oil such as jojoba oil. You can mix two thirds of jojoba oil and one third of castor oil and apply on damp skin in the evening.
