Agua de sapo, the Caribbean drink

A hammock strung between two palm trees, the refreshing and natural shade that lets some sun rays filter through, white sand and blue water that looks like crystal, our stop in Costa Rica is truly restful and regenerating! We are lulled quietly, captured by the beauty that surrounds us while we sip with a straw a particular traditional drink, called agua de sapo. The agua de sapo is prepared with brown cane sugar, lemon, cinnamon and lots of ginger for a boost of energy and health. So, we also prepare the agua de sapo, lie down on the sofa, close your eyes and here there are no more walls around you but clear air, waves and luxuriant nature.

Agua de sapo

Let's see how to prepare a slightly less sweetened version of the incredible agua de sapo, a real Caribbean drink. Bring a liter of water to the boil, add half a stick of cinnamon, 2 tablespoons of brown sugar and 50 grams of fresh ginger, peeled and cut into pieces. Let it simmer for 5 minutes, then remove from the heat and let it sit for 10 minutes. Strain and, once cold, add 50 ml of freshly squeezed lemon juice. Enjoy this delicious drink!
